"The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something..." - Barack Obama
Today's post includes inspiration and a quick practice to supercharge your entire day if you are feeling stuck or overwhelmed.
Daily Dose of Enthusiasm:
“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
— Barack Obama
Some days, getting up feels like the hardest thing. Yesterday was one of those days.
I felt stuck and unmotivated, “farm chores” like feeding the dogs and walking them, suddenly felt enormous. I was tired, stressed about the weekend, worried about finding new clients. Everything felt heavier than it actually was.
That is what overwhelm and fear does - it convinces you that the big stuff is too much. You look for the comfortable option or reasons not to do anything.
“Stay in bed” “You’ll deal with it later.”
But here’s where it shifted for me:
I’ve been talking to my 11-year-old stepson about building an emotional tool belt — tips and tricks to help him handle big feelings.
Turns out, I needed to reach for my own.
I tried a new practice called Segment Intending.
It’s simple: at the start of the day, you mentally break it into chunks and set an intention for each one.
“My intention as a writer today is to create something inspiring and helpful.”
“My intention for my meeting with my VA at noon is to be clear, efficient, and creative as we work on launching our new offering.”
“My intention for this evening is to connect with family and show up with warmth.”
This grounded me.
It gave me structure and purpose.
And by the end of it, I was out of bed, chores done, and the fog had lifted.
How to use this:
Tomorrow morning or next time you feel stuck or unmotivated,Set intentions for each segment of your day.
Speak them out loud.
Give your brain a hopeful direction to move in - then take the first step.
Welcome to my new subscribers! Happy to have you.
As always, see ya tomorrow.
